Leader:

Hello, children of God. I want you to know that God says to call you “children of God.” Would you like to see where?

Children:

Yes.

Leader:

It is right here in First John 3:1; in fact, why don’t you repeat it after me? “See what love” (pause for echo), “the Father has given us” (pause), “that we should be called” (pause), “children of God” (pause); “and that is what we are.” So, you are children of God. Are there any other children of God around here?

Children:

No. Yes. In the nursery.

Leader:

That’s right, there are some children of God in other places in our church. But I mean right here. Are there any more children of God right here?

Children:

No. Maybe. Yes?

​Leader:

Well, this verse is saying that if God loves us, then we are all children of God. That is very good news, I want you to know. Let’s do this (lower your voice conspiratorially and address the children): let’s tell the rest of the congregation that they are God’s children too! Will you help me?

Children:

Yes!

Leader:

Okay, when I say, “Who are the children of God?” you point to them and call out, “You are the children of God!” And the second time I ask, say, “We are the children of God!” Ready?

Children:

Yes!

Leader:

Let’s stand up. Who are the children of God?

Children:

(Pointing to the congregation) You are the children of God!

Leader:

Who are the children of God?

Children:

We are the children of God!

Leader:

That was great! Let’s do it a couple more times, but let’s give the congregation a part. (To the congregation:) After the children answer the question, you all say, “That is what we are!” Everybody ready? Who are the children of God?

Children:

(Pointing to the congregation) You are the children of God!

Congregation:

That is what we are!

Leader:

Who are the children of God?

Children:

We are the children of God!

Congregation:

That is what we are!

Leader:

That was fantastic! Let’s have a prayer and give thanks that we are all children of God. (Prayer)
